In the past few days the points I get from my downloads dropped drastically (by more than half). Normally if it is due to downloads being slower than normal it tapers a bit, but this literally got cut in half overnight. Did something change? Is there an issue with the points atm? Thank you.
The following was posted in the developer discord, specifically regarding this month's large slump.

I'm running out of words to place here to start a news post!
For those of you concerned about points, points are dynamic! This means they change based on the money in the pool from advertisers! The start of the year has a normal global slump in advertising budgets.
Things will improve as the year moves on, don't worry, this wasn't some major planned cut to reduce rewards. This is how points will flow & fluctuate through the year."

Same thing has impacted everyone. Hopefully this helps!
Glad there was a followup on this. We entered a ticket back on Jan 4th and had heard nothing.
I hadn't seen this slump last year but our points were fairly small then.
Guess we'll wait and see how it turns out.
However, the faq referenced above was "Modified on: Sun, 9 Jan, 2022 at 8:13 AM" and the problem started on jan 1 so most folks probably saw the older version which was much shorter:
The number of points in the monthly pool may have decreased from the previous month, or other projects could have gained in popularity (or your projects' popularity may have waned); all projects gain their daily points from a single monthly pool. Months with fewer days in them will generally see more points per day than longer months, and also near the end of the month you may see a significant point increase."
Venting is expressing frustration (even when justified).
For example: Yet another customer asks a 'dumb' or even hostile question for the 185th time.
Choice A: CM expresses irritation.
Choice B: CM gives a positive, honest answer*... for the 185th time.

"We have a lot of people recently asking about the recent drop in points at the start of January 2022. We added a section to the FAQ on January 8th to address your questions.
Here's what we added:
"full quote of new faq section".
Link to the Faq.
I hope this clears up your questions and will answer your follow up questions as soon as possible."
(use of "and" instead of "but" here is less confrontational)
* honest- even if it's bad news but delivered in an respectful way.

Venting can lead to a cycle of hostility. Seen it happen in other customer forums. The reason I originally responded was that I *had* read the faq and that section wasn't in there at the time. So I came to the forum's after my ticket hadn't received any answer for over a week), hoping to find an explanation.
It's all good and our points are back up to about 70% of what they were in December.
Hope you have a great day and your work and followup is appreciated and makes a difference!

(and wow- you guys must be undergoing a huge DDOS attack right now.
Never noticed points going down that much actually, but perhaps I just had a lucky few months where download counts were good I guess.
Whats even worse imo nowadays is how long it sometimes takes to even just GET the rewards (even simple stuff such as getting a paypal payout which imo could be automated), what used to be a week a most nowadays is a good month usually, I wouldnt mind it taking long with smaller companies, but a multi million (billion? idk) dollar company should definitely be able to get 1-2 more workers to check/verify rewards/send them out shouldnt they?
Really wish CF would step up their game in that department, but as long as there is no good competitor they most likely have no pressure to do so either sadly.
My points went up slightly but no where near what they were before. Not to mention my downloads really have not changed a whole lot. I am not sure if they like drastically changed they ad algorithm or changed what ads they place but it has to be hurting other, not just me. Also as far as the PayPal payout thing, I agree 100%. It has taken over a month in a half at time for me to get my withdrawal. Before Curse was bought out I could rely on it to be around the 1st-5th of the month every month. Now I don't even count on it because of how inconsistent it is.
My earnings have since increased to around 33% higher than what they were originally, but this is likely since I released a new mod which gained a decent bit of traction. I hear that prior to the platform being bought by OverWolf, CF was losing money. This might be the true reason for the points cut.
It's an unfortunate situation tbh. My main pack is one of the top of all time as far as MC texture packs go with a couple million downloads yet my earnings are wayyy down. Does not make a lot of sense to me.
It may be that World of Warcraft made an announcement recently and had a new patch of TBC Classic release. Perhaps the ad pool is going to more WoW because of this.
Example: an ad agency buys 10,000 views and last month nothing really happened, everything was in the normal state, we saw our normal points per day. Then this month WoW launches stuff and while MC still gets it's normal views the ads are seen by far more WoW players and or ran out. So WoW ate up 5000 of those views lowering the available pool for other games.
As a WoW addon developer I saw my points go up slightly.

I am guessing the pool is smaller as my downloads are pretty consistent

Everything starting with "Additionally" is new...
Yeah it seems that they killed the rewards , seems like its only 33% from what it was last year, not worth anymore.
In reply to Arzuni:
Hopefully it builds back up.. I am really disappointed if this was a decision they made to just reduce cost effectively screwing us creators.
Our points have recovered about 50%.
Their C.M. needs to avoid venting and remain positive. (and yea- I know it's tough to do that).
In reply to MacTso:
I am not sure what you mean in the second part of your post, I have heard the term CM but not sure what you mean by venting

Anyway, just a hypothesis.
I want to get more points!
