I am Shado47 of Axanthic Game Studio (just a fancy name for our modding team), and we're looking to bolster our numbers for our 1.12.2 dimension mod "Lands of Icaria". I realise 1.12.2 isn't exactly super attractive to mod anymore, but the mod has been in development for more than 3 years now and commencing an update and rewrite to a newer version (with lesser performance) halfway into our development process didn't seem all that appealing to us.
The team:
Let me tell you a little bit about us.
We're a very small but tight-knit team of currently 4 core members, with RCXcrafter being the Senior Developer and me being the Creative Director. Our code is hosted on Github, and all communication within the team takes place through our Discord server.
About myself: I have over 10 and a half years of experience in the Minecraft modding scene, having previously led Team Melanistic (2011 to 2015) that released mods like Landscapecraft, BicBiomeCraft, The Legend of Notch, Eternal Frost and Eternal Frost 2. My role in AGS is to create the assets for the mod and come up with most of the ideas and concepts. I make most of the mob models, most of the block models, and almost all of the textures. At the same time I map out the update path of the mod moving forward; what needs to be done next, long term goals, etc.
RCXcrafter is the Senior Developer and leading programmer on the project. He is the only other consistent member of the team since the project's inception, and has probably written like 90% of the mod's code all by himself. He is very skilled and also has many years of experience in the Minecraft modding scene. For him, alot of the project was "learning by doing". In the process, he implemented a whole number of features to Lands of Icaria that haven't been done before by any other mod.
Luxtracon is our other programmer. He is comparatively new to Minecraft modding but learns very fast and is responsible for our upcoming overhaul of the flora in Icaria. He is also a talented texture artist and can do some texture work whenever me or Carver aren't available.
Carver is the 4th and currently final member of the core team. He is our sound guy, but he also makes textures when need be, and has designed the new Myrmeke models that are yet to be implemented.
The extended team also includes Foxbud who has done some significant programming work in the past, but has mostly quit Minecraft modding since. Poiuytrezay, the original developer of Eternal Frost and Eternal Frost 2, is also involved with Lands of Icaria, having coded the original and the new upcoming versions of our unique terrain generator.
About the mod:
And let me tell you a bit about the mod itself. The concept is actually quite straightforward: a multi layered mediterranean floating dimension mod inspired by ancient greek mythology. Most of our creatures are our interpretation of ancient greek myths/folklore, and we do hope to also add artifacts with the same inspirations to go along with that. We do NOT intend to implement greek gods as mobs to the game. If any deity content gets added at all, its through some sort of celestial karma system where you can please some gods and enrage others through small scale actions in the dimension. Most of our materials use their ancient greek names or similar, and our stone types are word-plays on real stone types (Limestone -> Yellowstone, Siltstone -> Silkstone, Sandstone -> Sunstone, Gravel -> Grainel, etc).
The state of the mod:
At this current point, Lands of Icaria is probably around 40% done. We do NOT use MCreator. Proper modding only.
With the big terrain update and everything connected to it, we'll probably make a jump of 30% in the mod's progress.
This project is very big, high quality, and ambitious.
Sadly at the current time, we don't really have the manpower to finish it.
Many assets are already prepared (mob reworks, many new mobs, many new blocks, well over 200 structures, a number of mob sounds) but are still awaiting implementation.
This is where YOU come in (hopefully).
If you're a Minecraft modder, motivated, want to become part of a great and very high quality dimension mod project, and get some of your own ideas into a vast dimension mod you could probably never do by yourself (there's a reason there are many, many small dimension mods, but only very few high quality big ones - it really is very hard to pull it off, and pretty much impossible to pull it off solo), this is your opportunity!
You only know basic minecraft modding? No worries! We got everything from mob implementation tasks to simple block and item implementation, or crafting recipes. Lands of Icaria offers many different roads to improve your skillset through the "learning by doing" mantra our team has embraced. We hope to roll out monthly updates together, and to bring this mod to a level where it can rival the quality of the absolute front runner of dimension mods: The Betweenlands.
If this has sparked your interest at all, hit me up on Discord!
